A new manga plotted and designed by artificial intelligence that learned the artistic style of “Astro Boy” manga creator Osamu Tezuka was released Thursday.

The manga “Paidon,” released in the weekly comic magazine “Morning,” was created by AI, which analyzed 65 works by Tezuka, including such classics as “Phoenix” and “Black Jack,” according to Kioxia Holdings Corp., a memory chipmaker that launched the project.

By analyzing Tezuka’s works, the AI generated character designs and basic storylines before professional creators added such elements as clothing and dialogue to complete the work.

“I always felt sad whenever Osamu Tezuka fans said they could no longer enjoy new works by him. AI creating his new work … that’s exactly the kind of (technologically advanced) world depicted in Tezuka’s manga,” the late author’s son and video creator Makoto Tezuka, who contributed to the project, told a news conference in Tokyo.

“I hope this technology will be applied to the training of young manga artists and also contribute to spreading the unique culture of Japanese manga to the world,” he said.

The new storyline is about a homeless philosopher who together with a robotic bird called Apollo tries to solve criminal cases in Tokyo in 2030. Magazine publisher Kodansha Ltd. said a sequel of the comic is currently in production.

Tezuka Productions Co. and Keio University professor Satoshi Kurihara, who specializes in AI and computing, also cooperated in the project launched around July 2019. Kioxia changed its company name in October from Toshiba Memory Holdings Corp., a chip company spun off from Toshiba Corp.

According to Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the rate of Japanese companies which use teleworking rose to 19.1%. The rate of US companies is about 80% and of UK companies 40%. To order a menu of drink, first of all, we request that we order robots to make drink in the casher. Second, we can receive a paper with a QR code. There are four cameras in the ceiling. They observe the customers’ position, age and gender. The robots talk with them according to the customers’ personalities. After repeating this training, they can master how to talk with the customers and make them smile.

The robots are made by Universal Robots in Denmark. The company is the top of sales in the world because of unbroken, high quality and safety. It costs about 6 million yen for robots and 3.5 million yen for software research fee and cloud fee.

The store use Microsoft Azure, a cloud service as the store management system. The store can be humanless because of cloud system, Internet Of things(IoT) and Artificial Intelligence technology.

The name of a store is Mochichi Station. It is open for 11 days except for Saturday and Sunday. The store targets working women and sells Ramen Mochichi Wonton noodle and vegetable noodle, that are popular among girls. Both price is 212 yen and can be paid by Suica and credit card.
