The rule of screening the status of residence gets more strict in Japan.

Immigration services agencies in Japan makes the inspection of foreign people who apply for studying in Japan more strictly after April. In order to prevent them from staying in Japan for the purpose of working, the number of countries and areas where the students are requested for graduation certificate and deposit balance are ten times more than now. It is also for screening the students who stay in Japan ilegally and and taking advantages of special skilled workers system in order to expand the number of international employees legally.

It is for the first time in about thirty years that the screening method was changed significantly.

Now, the countries where Japanese put more strict screening rule on is China ( expecp for Hong Kong and some other areas) ,Vietnam, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Mongolia. Immigration services agencies requested for various certifications like parents’ deposit balance and the relationship with parents.

However, international students from the other countries and areas come to Japan and stay in there illegally after they graduate from school. The number of foreign people who stay in Japan illegally after graduation is over 4,700.

That’s why immigration services designate 118 countries where good economic situation comparatively and the low risk of staying in Japan illegally as whitelists. If students who apply for studying in Japan are requested for submitting some certificates and proceed more strict screening.

Chinese students are designated as whitelists because the number of wealthy people increases and the number of illegal residence decreased. However, 80 countries like India and Cambodia are not put in the list.

International student are allowed to work for twenty-eight hours a week as a manual labor. According to the department of Health and Human services, the number of foreign students who work in Japan is three hundred eighteen thousand people and estimated to be nineteen percent of the foreign workers. Half of international students are working in Japan.
